3. Thought Leadership – Lessons Learnt: SpaceKnow outlines the lessons learnt from working with satellite imagery data.

SpaceKnow developed products for monitoring economic activity for a wide variety of both consumer and enterprise clients through AI-powered satellite image analysis tools. We arranged this interview with SpaceKnow CEO Pavel Machalek and Vice President Hugh Norton-Smith to better understand how the company works with satellite imagery data.

The below is an excerpt from our interview. The full document is available to clients of our Thought Leadership package.

What are examples of issues you encountered when collecting, cleansing and analyzing data?

The various satellite operators provide their data in very different formats. SpaceKnow’s patent-pending technology allows us to combine these diverse sources of imagery on-platform, and then augment this with social media inputs, vector imagery and other insights.

Clouds remain a perennial problem for optical imaging, although our algorithms can now proactively filter them out. We’re also exploring SAR (synthetic aperture radar) integration, which works night-and-day and sees through inclement weather. It’s highly complementary to optical imaging.

We’re really proud of building a platform that provides more than just raw imagery, but the tools to make quick and informed decisions, whether you’re a government agency, agricultural concern or hedge fund manager!
