Vendor Overview: This vendor delivers high frequency and comprehensive South Korea export data. Preliminary export data includes total volume and value of all products, at all country destinations that are exported from South Korea. The dataset is created by aggregating and analyzing customs declaration forms.

  • Geography: South Korea export destinations.

2. Case study: Corporate hiring activity offers insight into company fundamentals. Palo Alto Networks (PANW).

Analyzing job listings data, from an Eagle Alpha data partner, can reveal insights on company fundamentals. Looking at a specific company use case, we found that total unique jobs listed on Palo Alto Networks (PANW) website from FYQ1 2015 through to FYQ4 2017, had an 87% correlation to quarterly revenue growth rates.

Examining growth in monthly job listings can be a good early signal of management’s belief in future fundamentals. This can be seen at key stages over the last several years, where the company either disappointed, or boosted, revenue. These time periods are highlighted in the red and green areas of figure 1.

  • September 29th – We are speaking at Quantopian’s Algorithmic Trading and Quantitative Finance event in Singapore.
  • November 30th – We are hosting a one-day event in London where we will discuss all aspects of incorporating alternative data into an investment process. The event will also include guest speakers along with a data practitioners panel.
  • December 5th – We are handpicking up to 50 alternative data vendors to pitch to buyside firms in New York. This is a must attend event for buyside professionals interested in alternative data. Contact us to learn more.

4. The BIG Alternative Data Showcase Event 

Eagle Alpha is delighted to announce our final lineup for our world class data procurement panel at the BIG Alternative Data Showcase Event in NYC on December 5th.

Eagle Alpha is looking for a Head of Data Science to lead a team of quantitative analyst & data scientists.

The successful candidate will have experience leading a team of quant analysts and/or data scientists and will have a strong commercial focus and understanding of the investment industry. He/she will lead the buildout of a team who will work to develop scalable solutions for alpha & quality testing for large data sets.

This will involve a coordinated approach between the Data Science, Data Insights and Engineering teams. Examples of some modelling techniques used to date: Time Series Econometrics, Dimensionality Reduction (PCA), Mixed-data sampling regression, machine learning techniques.
