Data Science Lab

  • Open Sourcing this weeks3fs – this helpful library from the Dask community builds on boto3, the Amazon Web Services standard SDK, to provide a convenient Python filesystem interface for S3. Useful for performing standard command-line style file processes including directory listings, reading blocks of bytes from a file, and file moving operations.
  • What we’re reading this week: Unsupervised learning for anomaly detection in stock options pricing – this deep dive into options pricing defines strategies for using machine learning to classify anomalous pricing activity. Showing many of the hidden behaviours inherent in the pricing mechanism, this article demonstrates a data-driven, as opposed to model and theory, approach to deriving options pricing laws, and using those derived laws to determine when an option is mispriced.
