Alternative Data Newsletter #136 – September 18th, 2019

Key Highlights

  • Alpha Capture Is Live: we officially launched Alpha Capture at the AI & Data Science in Trading conference held in London earlier this week. Alpha Capture is the first tool to help buyside firms identify and prioritize datasets that deliver actionable, alpha-generating data. With Alpha Capture, data vendors submit trade ideas or forward looking use cases based on interesting insights from their datasets, which gives fund managers the first-ever opportunity to value alternative datasets and ascertain, at scale, the real potential for alpha. Email alphacapture@eaglealpha.com to learn more.
  • Legal Webinar: on September 9th the federal appeals court rejected LinkedIn’s effort to stop HiQ from using information crawled from LinkedIn’s website. On our September Legal & Compliance webinar, hosted last week, Peter Greene and Benjamin Kozinn from Lowenstein Sandler LLP discussed the case and the landmark decision. The implication is that taking information that is readily accessible by anyone on the internet is public information. LinkedIn will have 90 days to appeal to the Supreme Court.
  • Elizabeth Pritchard Joins Our Board of Directors: Ms. Pritchard is an innovative leader whose career has spanned investment banking, insurance and fintech over the last twenty-three years. Elizabeth is currently Founder of White Rock Data Solutions LLC, a boutique consulting firm providing data management solutions to clients. Her appointment brings increased data analytics and data management expertise and leadership support as Eagle Alpha continues to enhance its alternative data offerings to its clients.
  • Research Analyst Insights: Our research analysts have been monitoring initial consumer reaction to the new Apple iPhone launch. They are seeing no evidence of a recovery in demand, and momentum for the services side of the business is also lacklustre. Email dataanalytics@eaglealpha.com to learn more.
